AI is taking off, and I see a real opportunity to help people understand it. I want them to have information that is correct, factual and backed by evidence, so they can find their way through all this.

I came to it from the inside. I was the executive director of a nonprofit with no executive team, so I did a lot of jobs myself. I started using ChatGPT when it launched in November 2022 and saw right away how much it would change. I wanted to tell the stories of the people we served and reach more people with very little money, without ever exposing who those people were. So I built rules and habits around the tools. The personal information stayed out. The work got done.

I’ve worked with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, and we later built internal systems on top of those models. I also vetted every service we signed up for, which taught me AI governance the hard way. In my own work, grant documentation that used to take weeks of back-and-forth took days.

Here is what I believe. AI will change the world as we know it, so it isn’t enough to know which buttons to press. You need strategies that make your work and your life easier. And people need protection, because systems like this can be used against those who don’t understand them. I won’t let that happen to the communities I serve and love.

I try to be clear and straightforward, and I don’t talk down to anyone.
